About this site

Ontario G1 Prep is a free, independent study tool for the Ontario G1 knowledge test. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) or DriveTest.

The study guide summarizes the rules described in the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook in original wording. The sign illustrations are simplified drawings, not official artwork. Always confirm current fees, rules and penalties with official sources, as they change over time.

Your progress, mistakes and bookmarks are stored only in your browser (localStorage). No account is needed and no data is sent to any server.

Languages

The interface, study guide and every question are available in English, French, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. Switch languages at any time from the menu – your progress is shared across languages.

The real test at a glance

  • Two parts: 20 road-sign questions and 20 rules-of-the-road questions.
  • Pass mark: the ministry does not publish one. Our 16 of 20 per part is a practice target only.
  • Minimum age 16; a vision test is required; bring original identity documents and the fee.
  • Graduated licensing: G1 → G2 (road test after 12 months, or 8 with driver education) → full G (after another 12 months).
