Regulatory signs

White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.

Warning signs

Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

Temporary condition signs

Orange signs mark construction zones and other temporary conditions.

Green, blue and brown signs give directions, distances and services.

Learn the shapes and colours

  • Octagon (eight sides) – stop.
  • Downward-pointing triangle – yield.
  • Yellow diamond – warning of a hazard ahead.
  • Five-sided fluorescent yellow-green – school zone or school crossing.
  • Orange – temporary conditions such as construction.
  • Red circle with a slash – prohibited; green circle – permitted.
  • Round yellow – railway crossing ahead; white X (crossbuck) – the crossing itself.
